周代焌CHOU Tai Chun

1986生於新竹,2012畢業於國立臺北藝術大學美術系碩士班繪畫組,作品曾獲得國內外美術館收藏。2016年舉辦「崩解劇場」個展於台北市立美術館。從《全球寂靜》系列到2013年發展迄今的《寂靜之外》系列創作,周代焌逐漸建構出屬於他這個世代特有的視覺經驗與想像。他所描繪的科幻空間及氛圍,看起來離真實雖然遙遠,卻透著現實的能指,影射當代世界的景況。 Born in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1986, CHOU Tai Chun received his MFA degree with a specialization in painting from the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2012. His artworks have become a part of various domestic and foreign museum collections. His solo exhibition named “State of Flux” currently is on display at Taipei Fine Arts Museum. In the earlier series of works Globe Silent and the series Beyond the Silence, which the artist has been working on since 2013, CHOU Tai Chun has been gradually constructing a unique visual experience and imagination manifesting itself in the era the artist is living in now. Although the science-fictional setting and atmosphere he is portraying seems to be remote from reality, yet there are few signifiers in his paintings alluding to the current situation of the world. 創作自述 《寂靜之外》所要傳達的是我所處的環境,企圖去形塑一股巨大且不安定的氛圍。崩解的概念來自於災難下的瓦解,這種瓦解就像是地貌處於流動的狀態,開度開發下,島嶼上不論人工或自然物等這些植被,都像是液態般的流動。不論你挖得多深建得多高,當無法負載的景況產生時,可能某些電影情節般的畫面就會出現,而我就是正在模擬液態島嶼崩解的種種情節。

似乎是一種危機意識在作祟,又或是我們不斷接受媒體訊息的輪播,那個美好年代已經過去,剩下的只是提醒我們還剩下多少。所以在我所建構的世界中,仍是以一個消極的姿態去面對這些的變動,而要帶來的也並不全是一些警示醒語,更多的是面對這樣的環境,我們選擇的觀看姿態,所以在畫面中常是以一個平視的角度做描繪,雖然是貼近土地但卻是冷眼的狀態,一個無可奈何但卻不是無可救藥的景況。 The series of works titled Beyond the Silence reflects on the environment I live in, attempting to form an overwhelming atmosphere of disquiet. The concept of destruction comes from the collapse that occurs in the midst of calamity, when the land appears to be in a state of flux. As a result of over-exploitation, everything on this island, manmade structure and natural vegetation alike, is in a fluid state. No matter how deep a building’s foundation is or how high it rises, whenever a disaster strikes that it can’t bear, some kind of movie scenario will take place. Here, I simulate a variety of narrative plots in which the island collapses in a state of liquefaction.

Seems like everyone is haunted by the awareness of crisis and still continue to receive messages spread by media. The better days are over, the remaining ones are here to remind us of how much is still left. Therefore, in the world I have constructed, I face these changes with a negative attitude and not only bring up the warnings but also depict the landscape the way we see it. I often use the “straight angle” approach to portray the land in my paintings. No matter how helpless the situation sometimes might look, it is not necessarily a hopeless one.
